Taizo Kuroda was born in 1946 in Japan. After moving to France and New York, he settled in Montreal where he studied ceramic art under Geatan Beaudin. During these studies, he returned to Japan twice to study under Tatsuzo Shimaoka in Mashiko.
In 1975, Taizo Kuroda began working as a designer for SIAL, a Canadian pottery company, and opened his own studio in St. Gabriel, Quebec in 1978. In 1981, he moved back to Japan and began working in his own studio in Matsuzaki, Izu. From 1984 to 1987, Mr. Kuroda ran "SHOP TAIZO" at Shibuya Parco, Tokyo. He moved his studio to Futo, Izu Peninsula in 1991 and his first exhibition of "White Porcelain" took place in Tokyo in 1992.

| The Museum of Broken Relationships is a museum dedicated to failed love relationships. Its exhibits are personal objects left over from former lovers which are accompanied by brief descriptions. At first a traveling collection of donated items, the museum has since found a permanent location in Zagreb, Croatia. In 2011, the Museum of Broken Relationships received the Kenneth Hudson Award for the most innovative museum in Europe. www.brokenships.com |

Nina and Ely are growing old peacefully in their apartment in Moscow, secluded in the middle of a hundred or so paintings by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Velazquez, Rubens…
With their crow and cats around them, Nina and Ely tell whoever is willing to listen the amazing and epic story of their collection: nobility, love of art, inheritance and resistance to power have, according to them, all played their part in building up this collection and preserving it through the history of Russia in the 20th century.
As their story unfolds, Nina and Ely overdo things somewhat, Nina and Ely get muddled up, Nina and Ely lose touch with reality.
Nina and Ely live in a fiction, a world that they invent every day, a world where it is not possible to distinguish between what is true and what is false.
A world where art and lies have gradually taken over from reality.

The expensive Polaroid films with the format 4 x 5 und 8 x 10 inches, many of which are out of production, are unique items the photographer uses as a homage to the exceptionality of the haute couture dresses. woman and to extend the shape of the feminine body in detail. She mixes craftsmanship- using old and forgotten techniques- with
innovation and materials inspired on the world to come.
“For me fashion is an expression of art that is very close related to me and to my body. I see it as my expression of identity combined with desire, moods and cultural setting.
In all my work I try to make clear that fashion is an artistic expression, showing and wearing art, and not just a functional and devoid of content or commercial tool. With my work I intend to show that fashion can certainly have an added value to the world, that it is timeless and that its consumption can be less important then its beginning. Wearing clothing can create a very exciting and imperative form of self-expression. 'Form follows function' is not a slogan with which I concur. On the contrary, I find that forms complement and change the body and thus the emotion. Movement, so essential to and in the body, is just as important in my work. By bringing form, structure and materials together in a new manner, I try to suggest and realize optimal tension and movement.”

The artist on his work:
In his eternal quest for a meaningful existence, man tries to overcome obstacles and defy negative forces. In this long struggle and fight for life he has to cross many bridges to achieve his many objectives. He will also experience many mental conflicts. His personal capacity to endure will be stretched to their limits in this battle for survival. I have tried to depict, through my paintings, the belief that man’s psychological insight should act as a compelling force for him to emerge a winner. |
