Selected with Gunter Sachs’ legendary eye for exceptional beauty over the course of 50 years, this avant-garde collection of art, objects and furniture will stand as a lasting testament to the extraordinary life and visionary art collection of the late Gunter Sachs.
Spanning numerous collecting categories, from Surrealism and Nouveau Realism, to Pop Art, Art Deco, 20th Century design and Graffiti, this two day auction is set to be one of the most remarkable and diverse single-owner collections to ever appear at Sotheby’s. The Pierre Bergé & Associés auction house is a great fan of Scandinavian design. Coming up for auction are more than 300 lots of standard lamps, desks, ceramics and original pieces. This will be the sixth special sale to honour Nordic talent.
Following the initial launch and subsequent success of its Scandinavian design sales, the Pierre Bergé & Associés auction house is putting together a sixth auction. For collectors looking for original pieces in mint condition. For lovers of this design which was created in the cold Nordic countries. For anyone looking to embellish their interior.
Among the items selected with passion and rigour are some rare pieces of furniture (Crocodile cabinet by Hans. J. Wegner), decorative items (vase by Axel Salto), elegant tables (coffee table by Tapio Wirkalla), desks (desk by Bodil Kjaer) and some iconic items (Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen). The sale features some stunning pieces, as well as some great classics and objects of desire created by the Scandinavian school which peaked during the second half of the twentieth century.
